Death on the Nile (2022)


Synopsis: once again. Hercule Poirot must solve another crime and find the responsible(s) of a new murder, aboard on a steam boat, while traveling the Nile river.

Cast: Kenneth Branagh, Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot, Russell Brand, Emma Mackey.

After the release and success of Murder on the Orient Express (2017), plans for a sequel were on the works, with Branagh returning as a director and Poirot, as well. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release was postponed, from 2021 to 2022. 

Death on the Nile follows the same formula as its predecessor: someone has been murdederd in secret, and there´s no witnesses at all. The narrative structure in the first act, could be a little bit boring and slow. The shots used aboard the ship, are so well done and dynamic, that could remind to those in Titanic (1997). Branagh as Poirot do not disappoint, The dress design and the global esthetic used in the film, looks original and attractive (it is set in the 30´s). The final resolution of the case, could be "predictable", but the way Poirot tries to solve it throughout the second act, is effective, for sure, the highlight of this movie.

OUTCOME:

An enjoyable movie. Branagh´s performance it´s at the same level as the first movie. Besides, it is weird to see Gadot in a different role, rather than portraying Wonder Woman. For fans of Agatha Christie, they must see this movie.
